Pleasures of life...
When it became clear that I have to spend two years in Kharagpur, I will confess that I was not very pleased. IITs are present in most of the metros and I get selected for the one in Kharagpur.
I dont want to give you the wrong idea. My Institute in general and my department (Electronics and Communication) in particular have a solid academic reputation and after a year, I can confidently state that the reputation is well deserved. My disillusionment was more with spending two years in such a small town which does not even have a good movie theatre. Now a year is past and I have to confess that I will miss Kharagpur when my course finishes. The campus is well laid out and the community is close knit. The student faculty interaction is healthy and extends outside the academic environment. Well, it is not exactly an idyllic scenario, the competition for grades is severe and can be extremely stressful if not taken in the correct perspective. But for me, the last year has been all about rediscovering the simple pleasures of life like going for walks with Geetha, sharing our cup of morning coffee, teaching my son cycling . After being away for two years from your family, you learn to appreciate these small pleasures which make up the fabric of life.
On a different note, I am really in the danger of becoming a Dilbert addict. The strip can be got from http://dailydilbert.livejournal.com/.
So long till the next post.
